What are Siamese twins?

Siamese twins - are babies who are born joined together. They are joined by a bridge of flesh through which the blood flows from one twin to the other. So the twins share the same blood circulation systems. The name "Siamese" originated from a famous pair of such twins from Siam who were exhibited for many years in the 19th Century. Nowadays, with the great advances in medicines and surgery, it is often possible to separate the twins, enabling them to live freely and independently from each other.

These Filipino Siamese twins were successfully separated shortly after their birth and have since led perfectly normal lives.
